The Queens of R&B reigned supreme at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, NC this past Saturday, July 20th. The evening was hot and muggy, but the soulful sounds took us all to a nostalgic paradise. The night kicked off with opening acts by Jayye Michael (Coko from SWV’s son), Psiryn and The OMG Girlz, setting the mood for an electrifying evening.

For those of us who belong to Generation X, such as me, the lineup of 702, Total, Mya, SWV & Xscape were nothing short of musical time machine. The ladies filled the air with familiar beats, it felt like I was being transported back to my youth.

702 came out to mesmerize the audience with their soulful vocals and captivating stage presence, getting everyone hyped up for a night of R&B bliss. The ladies did take a moment to remember lost band member, Irish Grinstead, who tragically lost her medical battle at the age of 43, September 2023.

Total followed suit by paying homage to Biggie during their set. The ladies gave off an infectious energy that had the crowd singing and vibing.

Mya took over the stage solo, no backup dancers needed. The crowd went into a frenzy and watched in awe as she danced her signature moves. She effortlessly belted out her hits, showcasing her sultry style. As Mya ended her set, she hyped up the crowd getting them ready for the Queens to arrive.

There was very little downtime as DJ Aone came out to keep the energy going, As the light went down the crowd’s excitement was exhilarating. A mini movie came up on the big screen showcasing all the ladies sitting around a table as Tiny discussed a well laid plan. As the movie ended, the ladies of SWV & Xscape came out in long, sparkly black coats. Their stage presence was magnetic and chemistry undeniable. The ladies looked like they were having the time of their lives; enjoying the energy of the crowd. The ladies turned it up solidifying their reign as the Queens of R&B. It was a night where music, style and talent converged to create an unforgettable experience.
