Jaryn Jones and Brandon Scott Soar on “Dry Bones”

“Dry Bones” is an impressive new duet from Nashville artists Jaryn Jones and Brandon Scott. Musically, it sounds like the best of seventies rock from artists like Fleetwood Mac and Heart. From the first note to the final harmonies, Jones and Scott vocalize beautifully together, just like Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham back in the day.

Lyrically, “Dry Bones” takes Biblical imagery and turns it into a powerful pop song about resilience.

The new single is a musical departure for Jones, whose 2023 EP Angles sounded like an artist bound for Broadway. Scott has primarily recorded Christian songs, like the 2022 standout “Buffer.”

We caught up with the Nashville artists to get the backstory on “Dry Bones”:

Is “Dry Bones” a Christian song or a pop song? To my ears, it feels like a reference to the valley of dry bones from the Old Testament prophet Ezekiel. Am I correct?

It was originally written as a pop song, though that story in the Old Testament is exactly what this song is about. We both come from Christian backgrounds and God has played a big role in both our lives.

What’s the backstory on this song? Was it a co-write, and what led to the creation of the song?

This was our very first co-write together back in 2021. We were inspired by our own stories, relating on difficulties of life and our motivation to keep going, to keep living even when we’re at our lowest points. It’s a life motto that helps us remember to take that first step, never give up, always fight for that next breath. We love this song and what it stands for!

Your voices blend beautifully! How long have you been singing together?

Thank you! We met back in 2021 at a writer’s round and ever since then we have become great friends and supporters of each other’s music. We gig at every event we can together; we love singing background vocals for each other’s songs and even showcase one’s we’ve co-written. We are always writing and working on new music.

Are you planning future collaborations next year?

We’re always looking forward to writing and performing together more. We don’t have anything scheduled for the studio yet, but there will definitely be more collaborations released to the world in our near future.
