The hit BBC One gameshow, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, will return for its third season on New Year’s Day.

Also available to watch on iPlayer, the third season will once again feature Winkleman overseeing a group of faithful and traitorous strangers in the Scottish Highlands as they compete for a £120,000 cash prize.

“We welcome a new group of strangers to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning up to £120,000,” reads the log line. “New series, and a whole new game. But who will make it through?”

The new season will also be accompanied by a visual podcast, Traitors Uncloaked, hosted by comedian Ed Gamble, which will be available after every episode of the show on BBC Two, iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

The upcoming episodes will once again air on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

Back in August, the BBC announced that a celebrity version of The Traitors will air before the third season.

The Corporation’s head of entertainment Kalpna Patel-Knight has said: “The Traitors has well and truly established itself as an unmissable highlight of the year and the news of a fourth outing, alongside a brand new celebrity version coming to the BBC, will take the series to a whole new level. It will once again be fascinating for our audiences to see who’ll outwit, outplay, and outlast. Let the mind games begin!”

The BBC renewed the regular version of The Traitors for a third season in November last year and in March, it was reported that contestants had been hatching a plot to use a secret code to communicate with each other in an attempt to conspire to win the show.
