Enthralling with a funky rock energy, “Hyperspace: Reloaded” is a new track from Mulholland Jive. The Cambridge, UK-based project is led by Irish multi-instrumentalist and composer Ben Mulholland. They perform as a 9-piece band, with a rotating cast of musicians performing the act’s memorably charismatic sound. They have drawn acclaim for performances at a wide array of venues — including Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the NMG Awards, Ely Arts Festival and Strawberry Fair, and headlining at the John Peel Centre and the Portland Arms.
“Hyperspace: Reloaded” showcases the band’s impressive capacity in the studio as well. An alternative mix of their track “Hyperspace,” which released in 2021 as the opening track on their debut EP Intergalactic, “Hyperspace: Reloaded” cranks up the original’s energy while still demonstrating why it remains a fan favorite. “Hyperspace: Reloaded” kicks quickly into gear, weaving sporadic pushes of instrumentation amidst a steady percussive backing. Suave, jazzy piano adornments and enthused horns converge with delectably melodic qualities.
A riveting piano-led sequence approaches the three-minute turn with atmospheric intrigue, bringing forth a dreamy allure as the pulsations of added instrumentation start to re-appear. A rousing finale then takes hold, capping off this electrifying funk gem with satisfying finality.
