Rome-based duo Technotanguero craft a beautiful fusing of classical guitar-laden flamenco and atmospheric synthwave on new track “Saudade.” Comprising partners Massimiliano and Ilaria, the project’s name refers to Massimiliano’s life flashing between the world of technology and music. “By day, I live and breathe technology; by night, I once danced the Tango Argentino, lost in its drama and precision,” he says. “At some point, the two worlds merged, like a perfect remix, and the name was born. It’s rhythm, it’s innovation… so in a way it’s me.”
The creative process for “Saudade” arose at night, with the duo finding the flamenco-led melody first. Thereafter came the decision to incorporate electronic textures, described by Massimiliano as “something reminiscent of an old cassette playing in the background of a neon-lit dream.” This cinematic synthwave component is especially compelling during the track’s second half, when lush and spacey synth pads meld beautifully with the trickling guitar tones and steady rhythmic ruminations.
Prior, the guitar work enchants as the primary focus, even when bolstered by percussive shaking and then more vibrant expressions as the first minute concludes. Additional guitar layers and this rhythmic momentum build into that satiating mid-point, where the project’s embrace of naturally classic flamenco beauty coincides artfully with the neon-friendly electronic prowess. “Saudade” is a thorough atmospheric success from Technotanguero, whose upcoming material — which they plan on potentially featuring vocals and lyrics — we are certainly now anticipating.
