STAGE+ Presents Yunchan Lim Live From Carnegie Hall

STAGE+ has announced its next livestream performance. On May 2, Yunchan Lim will play Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Goldberg Variations”—revered as one of the greatest masterpieces of piano music—from New York City’s Carnegie Hall.

The performance comes just a year after the renowned Korean pianist made his Carnegie Hall debut, where he played an all-Chopin program of etudes. Lim, who started taking piano lessons at seven years old, became the youngest pianist to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022 at age 18. Quickly gaining recognition following the competition, Lim played in orchestras like the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and more.

Chopin: Études, Opp. 10 & 25, Lim’s debut album under Decca Classics, was released in 2024. That same year, he won two Gramophone Classical Music awards for Best Piano Recording and Young Artist of the Year.

The pianist recently made history at the 2025 BBC Music Magazine Awards, taking home trophies for Recording of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and the Instrumental Award. It marked the first time an album has received three awards in one year since the ceremony’s 2006 debut, as well as being the first time a Newcomer award winner has simultaneously received Recording of the Year.

On May 16, Decca Classics will officially release Lim’s interpretation of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, which was recorded live at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

STAGE+ was launched in 2022 by the world’s oldest record label, Deutsche Grammophon. Each year, the classical music subscription service presents over 50 livestreams from the world’s most renowned festivals, concert halls, and opera houses. It also has an extensive archive of historic performances, exclusive interviews, documentaries, and music videos featuring the label’s artists.

Tune into the STAGE+ stream on May 2nd.
