Amsterdam-based indie band Pip Blom have announced their new EP, titled Grip, slated for release on June 6th. Coinciding with the announcement, the band has revealed details of a club tour named “Club Grip,” featuring specially selected support acts, including Mount Palomar for the UK dates. The lead single from the EP, “Ring,” is available today, offering the first glimpse into the band’s latest sonic direction.
Following their exploration of synth-pop elements on their acclaimed album Bobbie, Pip Blom delves further into a vibrant and more electronically infused sound with Grip. This EP marks their first independent release, following a successful period with Heavenly Recordings. Notably, Grip was entirely written and recorded in Pip Blom’s home studio by the core trio of Pip Blom, Tender Blom, and Darek Mercks.
The lead single, “Ring,” serves as a fitting introduction to the new EP. The track establishes its atmosphere with glitching synthesisers and layered washes of sound before the band’s signature indie hooks, distinctive guitar lines, and Pip Blom’s emotive vocals take prominence. “Ring” suggests a further evolution of Pip Blom’s sound, building upon their indie roots with a more pronounced electronic influence.
Of the EP’s lyrical themes, Pip states,
I’ve had a pretty rough year with lots of difficult events in my private life happening. And throughout this period I started to notice how much I craved to find some sort of grip. It’s difficult to have this overpowering sense of searching for something to hold on to, as unfortunately, as we all know, you can’t really get that. Life is very unpredictable.
To celebrate the EP’s release, Pip Blom will perform six exclusive club shows as part of a Club Grip tour, including three in the Netherlands and three in the UK.
