DIIV’s journey since the release of their acclaimed album “Frog in Boiling Water” last May has been a stark contrast of highs and lows. The band celebrated critical success and sold-out tours worldwide, a testament to their enduring connection with fans. However, this triumph was overshadowed by the devastating wildfires in California earlier this year, which tragically resulted in frontman Zachary Cole Smith losing his home.
As the one-year anniversary of “Frog in Boiling Water” approaches on May 24th, DIIV are marking this milestone with a poignant return. Today, they share their first new music since the album’s release, offering the deeply emotional track titled “Return of Youth.”
In a poignant statement, Zachary shares,
At the very beginning of the year my family and I lost our home and everything we owned to the wildfires in Altadena, CA. We had been preparing for the birth of our second son. We were living in the beautiful world at home that I had imagined in this song, and at once that world was gone.
“Return of Youth” arrives as a powerful and introspective offering from the band, undoubtedly carrying the weight of their recent experiences. This new song provides a first glimpse into the band’s current emotional landscape, hinting at the themes and sonic textures that may shape their future work in the aftermath of such significant personal challenges.
DIIV are set for an extensive EU and UK headline tour this summer, complementing their appearances at several prominent festivals including End Of The Road and Paredes de Coura. This follows their successful 25-date EU/UK tour in late 2024, which included two sold-out support slots for Fontaines D.C. at London’s Alexandra Palace. Before heading to Europe, the band will conclude a North American tour supporting their latest album with a special three-night residency at Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom, where they will perform “Frog In Boiling Water” in its entirety each night.
