Sony Music Vision has announced a new documentary revolving around the Thai-born K-pop musician’s life and career over the last year. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary is being helmed by filmmaker Sue Kim.

The currently untitled project, which has yet to land a release date, is due to chronicle Lisa’s personal life, as well as her solo endeavours during BLACKPINK’s break over the last year. It will reportedly include the release of her solo album ‘Alter Ego’, as well as her solo debut at Coachella in April.

Director Sue Kim said of the upcoming documentary: “I really tried to impress upon Lisa how much not just me — but I think the world — wants to see off-stage Lisa. She loves to refer to herself as, ‘I’m just a normal girl from Thailand.’ And when you meet her, she actually is. She’s so down to earth. It’s quite shocking, and so real and so sincere. But she’s very incredibly found herself in this crazy position of being one of the biggest superstars in the world, and even within that world, she’s trying to expand out of it.”

The documentary promises to “give fans exclusive access to Lisa with an in-depth look at the artist’s groundbreaking career and creative vision outside of the world-renowned group, BLACKPINK”. This will be Lisa’s second documentary – the first was BLACKPINK’s 2020 film Light Up The Sky for Netflix.

During BLACKPINK’s time-off, all four members of the group have embarked on solo careers, with Jennie, Lisa and Rosé all releasing full-length albums. Jisoo, on the other hand, has released an EP, ‘Amortage’.

Besides her solo music, Lisa also turned heads with her acting debut as Mook in season three of HBO’s hit series The White Lotus.

In a three-star review of ‘Alter Ego’, Crystal Bell wrote for NME: “‘Alter Ego’ may not fully answer the question of who Lisa is as a solo artist, but it’s an ambitious first step toward finding out. The album is eclectic, unapologetic and, at times, a little lost in its own spectacle. If ‘Alter Ego’ is about trying on different personas, perhaps the real Lisa is still emerging. And when she finds her footing, she’ll be unstoppable.”

As for BLACKPINK, the group are soon due to make their return, kicking off a world tour in July. For the ‘Deadline’ tour, the K-pop powerhouse group will be performing in South Korea, the United States, Europe and the UK – which includes two massive dates at Wembley Stadium in London in August – and a slew of newly announced Asia dates.

Ahead of the shows, Lisa has revealed that a new album is “coming soon,” in a recent interview with Variety. “Actually, we were in the studio a few days ago,” she told the publication. “We’re all so super excited to get back together and go on tour. We really miss the Blinks. We can’t wait to see them.”
