Nation of Language Announce New Album, Dance Called Memory, Share New Single

On September 19, 2025, synth-pop favourites Nation of Language will release their anticipated fourth album, ‘Dance Called Memory,’ marking their full-length debut on Sub Pop. The 10-track effort was recorded, produced, and mixed by returning collaborator Nick Millhiser in New York City. The new album features the breakout radio single “Inept Apollo,” alongside highlights like “Under the Water,” “In Your Head,” “Silhouette,” and today’s new offering, “I’m Not Ready for the Change,” accompanied by an official video directed by John MacKay.

Known for their elusive genre-bending sound, which draws comparisons to synthpop, minimal wave, post-punk, goth, and new romantic, Nation of Language continues to defy easy categorisation. Frontman Ian Richard Devaney crafted ‘Dance Called Memory’ by embracing a more introspective and “spectral, spacious” approach, often stemming from simply strumming his guitar. The band, including Aidan Noell (synth) and Alex MacKay (bass), further evolved their sound with Millhiser, experimenting with new palettes—like processing percussion through a synthesiser for an early-2000s electronic feel or sampling chopped drum breaks for a touch of Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine. This follows their acclaimed previous albums: Introduction, Presence (2020), A Way Forward (2021), and Strange Disciple (2023), which were celebrated as “pandemic-era godsends” and gorgeous, relatable soundtracks.

Nation of Language has significantly expanded their international headline tour for Fall 2025 across North America, the EU, and the UK. The North American leg kicks off on August 21st in Hamden, CT, and runs through October 30th in Washington, DC, featuring a three-night hometown stand at Brooklyn’s Warsaw and a two-night engagement at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.

The UK and EU leg now begins with a second show in Dublin, IE on November 6th, concluding on November 28th in Lisbon, PT. This European trek includes major headline venues like London’s The Roundhouse and Berlin’s Columbiahalle. Support throughout the tour will come from various acts including Safe Mind, Greet Death, Deeper, and Westerman. Before their headline run, Nation of Language will also join Death Cab For Cutie for select dates on their Plans: 20th Anniversary Tour in Seattle and Chicago this July and August.
