Dundalk five-piece Just Mustard has returned with their first new music in three years, the maximalist single “POLLYANNA.” This track signals a significant evolution for the band, pushing their restless innovation to the forefront. “POLLYANNA” feels like a moment of clarity; their signature sound has become even more enveloping, presenting a thrilling collision of warped guitars and submerged beats, with frontwoman Katie Ball’s dreamlike vocals more prominent than ever. While a sense of disorientation persists, there’s a new embrace of directness and melody. The song, partly inspired by “toxic happiness,” arrives with a mesmerising CCTV-style video directed by Katie Ball herself.
Of the video, Katie states,
“POLLYANNA” marks the band’s first original material since their acclaimed 2022 album, Heart Under, a record lauded by publications such as The Independent, NME, and The Daily Telegraph. Following its release, Just Mustard embarked on a successful world tour and has had the esteemed opportunity to support major acts including The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Fontaines D.C., further solidifying their reputation for captivating live performances.
To celebrate this new release, Just Mustard has also announced a select run of intimate venue shows, offering a rare opportunity to experience their immersive sound in close quarters. Additionally, the band is confirmed to play several prominent festival dates in 2025, including Green Man Festival in Wales, Electric Picnic in Dublin, and a US appearance at Seisiún Festival in Boston. Stay tuned for more exciting news from Just Mustard as they embark on this new chapter.
