Week in Review, 6/16 to 6/22

Welcome to another edition of SB Week in Review. Here’s all the news you might have missed over the past week:

Headlines

  • NewJeans‘ appeal to a lower court’s injunction on independent entertainment activities was rejected by the Seoul high court. While the main contract validity case continues, NewJeans will be banned from entertainment activities that are not done through Ador. The next hearing on that case will be in July.
    • Ador put out a statement after the ruling thanking the court for its judgement and once again requesting the members return to the company ahead of their third anniversary.
  • Following a brief hiatus, One Hundred announced that its contract with The BoyzHaknyeon had been terminated. The agency took such action after rumors surfaced that the singer was spotted with a Japanese former-AV actor, and that he had solicited her for prostitution.
    • Haknyeon, in addition to a handwritten apology, took to Instagram twice to deny the claims and say that he had done nothing illegal, did not accept the unilateral termination and would be fighting it. He further challenged both his agency and the media to produce proof of any wrongdoing on his part.
  • Former NCT member Taeil admitted to charges of quasi-rape alongside his alleged accomplices at the first hearing of his sexual assault trail. The prosecution is requesting at least 7 years.

Debuts & Comebacks

  • Sungjae walked through the fallout of a lost relationship in the MV for “At Last.”
  • Illit were borrowed cats in “Do the Dance.”
  • Allday Project hit the scene with the futuristic “Famous” MV ahead of their official debut on June 23.
  • Baby Don’t Cry released the pre-debut MV for “Bet You’ll Regret It,” produced by I-dle‘s Soyeon.
    • The teaser for the group’s official debut MV “F Girl” drew harsh criticism online for its sexualization of minors.
  • Kiss of Life put out a B-side MV for “K Bye.”
  • Kang Daniel went snooping around for clues in his latest, “Episode.”
  • Yugyeom asked “Shall We Dance?“
  • Moonbyul praised her cold demeanor in “Icy Bby.”
  • Hearts2Hearts kept things light and sweet for “Style.”
  • Katseye made their own over-the-top telenovela for “Gabriela.”

Teasers & Announcements

  • Enhypen are ready to fight in the MV teaser for “Outside,” out on June 23.
  • Cravity will also return on the 23rd with “Set, Net, Go.”
    • The group’s creative director Rakta responded to claims that the group’s teaser photos were similar to TXT Beomgyu‘s teaser photos for “Panic.” She said the two concepts were planned separately, and there was no plagiarism.
  • Fromis_9 will return for the first time under a new agency with “Like You Better” on June 25. Ahead of the release, the group put out a highlight medley for From Our 20s.
  • H1Key will drop it’s fourth mini album Lovestruck alongside the seasonally appropriate “It Was Summer” MV on June 26.
  • Aespa dropped more teasers for “Dirty Work” ahead of the single’s June 27 release.
  • KARD began sharing teaser photos for Drift. The album will be out July 2.
  • Jung Yonghwa also began teasing his July 3 solo return with One Last Day.
  • Doh Kyungsoo went blond for “Sing Along,” set for release on July 7.
  • Super Junior will drop their 12th album Super Junior 25 on July 8.
  • Close Your Eyes shared a spooky comeback scheduler for Snowy Summer, out on July 9.
  • Twice shared a cryptic teaser “This is For You,” ahead of their July 11 full album release.
  • Onew began to set the mood for “Confidence,” which will drop July 15.
  • Many other idols announced July comebacks:
    • Babymonster with “Hot Sauce” on July 1.
    • Rescene with Dearest single album on July 2.
    • Somi with the digital single “Extra” on July 7.
    • Viviz with A Montage of () on July 8.
    • NCT Dream with Go Back to the Future on July 14.
    • 1Verse will debut on July 18.

Other News

  • The Seoul Music Awards were held over the weekend, with I-dle taking home their first Daesang, and TXT nabbing best album and best song.
  • Suga donated 5 billion won to establish a new center for those with autism in partnership with Seoul Serarance.
