Opportunity for Aspiring Music Professionals Opens Today for Full-Time Students Studying Music or Music-Business Related Fields
New York, NY – Tuesday, July 8 – Sony Music Group (SMG) today announced the call for submissions for its Global Scholars Program. The initiative is designed to provide scholarships and enrichment opportunities for students enrolled in a wide range of leading music and music-related fields of study at accredited colleges and universities. Recipients of the grant will receive annual financial support for the period of the degree program or upon completion, whichever is sooner, depending on financial need and region.
For the 2025–2026 application cycle, the scholarship is open to students pursuing degrees in a wide range of music and music business disciplines. Whether studying performance, production, composition, or music technology, recipients will join a growing network of talented individuals committed to shaping the future of music.
Over the past four years, SMG has funded 50 students from 18 regions around the world. In addition to funding, in July 2024, these Scholars were invited to Sony Music headquarters in New York to participate in a four-day conference designed to equip students with meaningful experiences, including curated events and enrichment programming that connected them with SMG industry experts. Through dynamic panel discussions and interactive workshops, students gained insight from leading professionals, including producers, songwriters, and engineers, from across the Company. Today, 98% of SMG-funded scholars are on track to complete music-specific degree programs by Spring 2026, with several scholars already graduating this past May.
“Music education doesn’t just shape artists, it empowers creators, innovators, and leaders who will define the future of our industry,” said Towalame Austin, Executive Vice President, Global Philanthropy, Social Impact and Environment, Sony Music Group. “Through Sony Music Group’s Global Scholars Program, we’re proud to invest in education and the next generation of voices and visionaries and future music leaders from around the world where Sony Music Group is doing business.”
For the 2025-2026 scholarship, applications open today. Eligible candidates include those planning to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university degree in music or music business-related fields during the current academic year.
