Whitney Shares New Single ‘Back To The Wind’

Chicago-based duo Whitney have shared their latest single, “Back To The Wind,” from their upcoming fifth studio album, Small Talk. The breezy new track arrived alongside a skate video directed by Alex Pennacchia. The highly anticipated album, which the band has called their “most affecting and best” work to date, is set for release on November 7th via AWAL.

Of the single, Julia Ehrlich states,

I think what’s stuck with me most about ‘Back To The Wind’ is the way the imagery ended up unfolding across the instrumental. In the past we’ve always insisted that each word on a lyric sheet so deliberately leads you back to the sentiment of the hook that it almost leaves no room for imagination. With ‘BTTW’ it felt more compelling to steer the second half into a series of images that might mean something different to each person that hears it. And since this was the first song we wrote for the record, I think it informed the way we pushed ourselves to explore and dig deeper lyrically overall. Also Max’s guitar solo goes crazy.

After a decade of collaborating as both bandmates and roommates, Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek recorded Small Talk without a producer, inviting various friends to contribute. The result is a collection of 11 incandescent songs that signal a confident return to the band’s signature sound while also showing a clear sense of evolution. The album delivers both instant classics that pull at their well-known heartfelt melodic strings and new moments that showcase their growth.

To support the new album, Whitney have also announced a world tour. The dates include a UK headline run in February 2026, which will feature an intimate show at Hackney Church in London, in addition to extensive shows across Europe, Australia, and North America. The tour kicks off with a special hometown show to celebrate Empty Bottle’s 33 & 1/3 Anniversary on November 2nd.
