As Rome Burns blend indie and rock music, creating their own alternative sound.
The EP opens with Animal, a wall of fuzzed-out guitar distortion sets the stage as the vocals tear through with raw, unfiltered emotion. The guitar is pure sonic aggression. Effortlessly catchy, with just the right amount of repetition to make it memorable—the kind of melody that makes you tap your foot without even realising it. The vocal contrast during this first track is incredible. The cleaner vocals still have texture but maintain clarity and control, blended with raw, shouted bursts, which add dynamic tension and emotional depth to the track.
The second song on REACTOR is I Am Your Enemy a monolithic groove that moves slowly, carrying the weight of a thousand storms. The punchy drums provide a relentless backbone to the track, and the riff is strident and unforgettable, instantly grabbing the attention of the listener with its rhythmic fluidity and melodic hooks. We are then thrown into a guitar solo, unleashing a tidal wave of energy that sweeps over the track like an unstoppable force. The lyrics are thought-provoking and speak of intergenerational trauma.
The third and final song, I Think You Should Leave, has heavy bass tones that underpin the song, giving it a dark, ominous quality that adds to the track’s intensity—think Red Hot Chilli Peppers vibes! The guitar riff again is catchy, and the vocals are authentic, giving us that blend of shouted and cleaner, more melodic vocal range we heard in track one. The thought-provoking lyrics feel like they’re being sung with pure passion. The emotion in their voice is so palpable, it’s almost as if you’re hearing the singer’s heartache, joy, or hope laid bare. There’s no pretence, just pure, unguarded feeling spilling out with every note.
