A riveting hip-hop display that ranges from spacey electronic intrigue to soaring guitar-laden charisma, “Still Sick” is a recent single from Wichita-based artist Thain. Recorded at The Echo Garden and also featuring local artist Hippy K, the production’s live instrumentation (from producer Steven Shields, of Audio Paradolia) combines with a fervent hip-hop vocal delivery — resulting in a replay-inducing sound that balances mood and charisma with artful immersion.
“This is two Midwest hip hop artists, and a producer from entirely different realms coming together and finding common ground,” Thain says of the track’s creative process. “Hippy K compliments the chorus with stabs/ad libs and our tonal differences really make each other stand out in the track.” The byproduct is a consummate success from Thain, who has written songs both as a solo artist and as a vocalist to For the Birds, an acclaimed Wichita-based project that blends hip-hop, metal, funk, reggae, and beyond.
The production commences with spacey synth pulses, glimmering with dreamy entrancement before the arrival of a delectably intense vocal push. “Still sick when I feel like it, drop hits and they still bitin'” the verses exude ample charisma as moody guitar tones enter alongside. Deeper, ominous-toned reflective vocal elements appear with sharp allure. “If you want a seat at the table, then you gonna have to pull up with a throne,” Hippy K’s enthralling segment exudes, furthering the confident notions of artistry within a melodically sating mix. “Still Sick” is wholly memorable output from Thain, Hippy K, and Audio Paradolia.
