The Utopiates are an indie electronic group currently riding an impressive run of releases. 2025 has marked a pivotal chapter for the band, with multiple tracks (Neighbourhood, Reputation, Evanescent, and Montezuma) earning repeat spot plays from radio mainstays Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy. Alongside this, the group has also picked up support from BBC Radio 6 and Radio X, further underlining their growing profile.
Closing the year on a strong note, Lost My Groove sees The Utopiates turning their focus toward uncertainty and the growing anxiety surrounding artificial intelligence. It’s a subject many artists are grappling with, and here the band approach it with honesty and unease rather than spectacle.
“It’s a song about dreading the future and the present. It’s angry, scared, and confused, all in one. We hate to be another band to wade in on the AI thing, but it’s in there too. How can artists not be afraid right now?” explains frontman Dan.
In a somewhat ironic way, the track itself exudes groove and infectious energy, with Dan Popplewell’s rhymes and borderline spoken verses allowing the thought-provoking songwriting to shine and giving the song a likability that helps it stand out.
The track will appear on Let’s Make This Happen, the forthcoming second album from The Utopiates, scheduled for release in March 2026. With another single expected in January, the band are clearly setting the stage for another productive year ahead.
