‘Wolf Cut’ has the wherewithal to not bare its teeth all that much, chords and words working in unison to effect a sixties machination and it had me thinking the Byrds in the first instance. But only those janglers they had recourse to a degree of punk, DIY and lo-fi production techniques of the 8-track kind. The Mother Lovers are loveable types and this track could have fallen apart at any time but at the heart of it all is an endearing air that we’ll be returning to time and again. KH
