Throughout 2025, singer and composer Rexen steadily built momentum within the independent music landscape. A run of three singles, My Heart, Hollywood, and I Can See You, helped establish his artistic direction, with My Heart surpassing 5,000 streams on Spotify and drawing attention to his refined compositional approach.
Behind the music lies an impressive background. Rexen holds a Master’s degree in composition from the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen and has performed at respected events such as Roskilde Festival, SPOT Festival, and Copenhagen Jazz Festival. These experiences clearly inform his ability to merge structure with emotional intent.
Hoik Up stands out not only for its message but also for its collaboration with Mette Lindberg, the frontwoman of Danish pop outfit The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. The pairing feels deliberate and well-matched, allowing both voices to occupy distinct yet complementary spaces within the arrangement.
The song’s release timing feels deliberate. As the transition into a new year often brings uncertainty, Hoik Up offers an alternative perspective, one centred on growth, presence, and choosing action over doubt. It’s less about reflection and more about forward motion.
From an instrumental standpoint, Hoik Up unfolds with a steady, pulsating bass and a string section that creates a hypnotic undercurrent. Rexen’s vocal delivery leans toward a measured-spoken cadence, while Lindberg’s lines move with greater speed and fluidity. Echoing backing vocals weave through the track, adding texture and a slightly primal edge that enhances the atmosphere without overwhelming it.
Hoik Up also serves as the final single ahead of Rexen’s forthcoming album, The Chauffeur, due for release on January 23rd via Stunt Records, a project that has already set expectations high as 2026 begins.
