UK metal titans Malevolence have shared their official World Of Warcraft anthem ‘Twelve To Zero’ – check it out below:
Last summer, Malevolence guitarist Konan Hall was gifted a custom-made Jackson guitar inspired by his World Of Warcraft dwarf paladin character, which he used during the band’s surprise set at Download Festival. “World of Warcraft and music are two of my favourite things,” Hall said in a statement. “Playing the Jackson guitar on stage will remind me of the hours I spent in the taverns of Azeroth.”
Shortly afterwards, World Of Warcraft developers Blizzard challenged the band to “capture the scale and tension of [upcoming expansion] Midnight” by writing a song in just 12 hours. The end result is ‘Twelve To Zero’ which is, according to a press release, “a crushing, cinematic track that mirrors the urgency and high-stakes drama of the expansion’s storyline.”
Check it out below, alongside a making-of video.
“It’s cool to have the challenge to write a song in 12 hours. It allowed us to get creative and have fun without the pressure of it being on an album,” said Malevolence vocalist Alex Taylor. “I think it sits outside of what people would expect to hear from us as well.”
The blistering track comes ahead of World Of Warcraft’s upcoming Midnight expansion, which will introduce housing options, a new campaign and four fresh areas to the hit fantasy role-playing game when it launches March 2.
Malevolence were forced to take down their music video for ‘Where Only The Truth Is Spoken’ cut ‘Salt The Wound’ last year after The National Trust threatened them with legal action. “Apparently pretending to play the guitar for a couple of hours on a public path that thousands of tourists walk up every single day is a criminal offence worth pursuing,” the band wrote in a statement. Earlier this month, Malevolence surprise-released their new single ‘Silhouette’.
In other news, the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance has stepped down as head of Warhorse Studios to focus on a movie adaptation.
