The band’s sixth studio album ‘Prizefighter’ was released on Friday (February 20) via Island Records and the band are currently in New York as they prepare to be the musical guests on this week’s Saturday Night Live.

On Tuesday, the band posted a video on their Instagram, telling fans that they would be playing an impromptu and unplugged show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, and urging them to show up at the venue at 8pm on a first come first served basis.

At the show, the band played without microphones, and performed six songs from ‘Prizefighter’, including the singles ‘Rubber Band Man’ and ‘The Banjo Song’, as well as classics such as ‘The Cave’ and ‘Awake My Soul’.

See footage from their one-off performance here, including frontman Marcus Mumford explaining how the show only came about because they found out the venue was free at the last minute:

Mumford & Sons played:

‘I’ll Tell You Everything’
‘Rubber Band Man’
‘Here’
‘Conversation With My Son (Gangers & Angels)’
‘White Blank Page’
‘The Banjo Song’
‘The Cave’
‘Awake My Soul’
‘Clover’

Mumford & Sons will be returning to BST Hyde Park this summer on July 4, with support from The War On Drugs. It will be their first show at the venue since they headlined in 2016, in a show that Marcus Mumford has told NME was “one of my favourite shows ever”.

“We’ve been gagging to do it again when the time was right, and now’s the time. Playing that place in our home town – it doesn’t get much better than that,” he added. Find any remaining tickets for the show here.

The band have also announced a North American tour for later in the year, with tickets for the shows on sale now – find yours here.

They kick off on June 2 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena and play a run of 13 shows, concluding on June 22 in Boston. After a short run of European shows, they then return to North America on July 31 with a show in Shakopee, Minnesota, before a run of a further 20 shows, including three at New York’s Madison Square Garden, before finally wrapping at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on October 7. See the complete list of shows in the social media post above.

Speaking to NME in November, Marcus Mumford said the new LP “elevates” the band’s sound from ‘RUSHMERE’. “I feel like we’re in our prime and that we’re writing the best songs we’ve ever written,” he continued. “I don’t say that about every record, and I really feel strongly about this one.”
