Italian-born, London-based composer Richard Green joins forces with Italian pianist Irene Veneziano and the Archimia Strings Quartet on “Midnight,” a somber and affecting neoclassical track from his EP, A Journey. The composition evolves from delicate keys into a dense, orchestral swell, marking one of five tracks on A Journey, which was the first of an ambitious trilogy that bridged traditional and modern instrumental sounds. Green has caught our ears with numerous tracks over the years.
The production unveils with steady effervescence, commencing with bright pulses of piano and accordingly sporadic string reflections. More expressive piano and string interplay comes into focus past the 30-second mark, the strings heightening in layered intensity thereafter as the piano work grows into a clanging ferocity. The layers’ melodic directions begin to distinguish with greater clarity as the track’s midpoint approaches, there embracing a sense of elegance as the flourishing strings delight in their grandiosity — and also as a momentum-filled undercurrent as prancing piano illumination ventures toward the final minute.
The track’s conclusion then absorbs with a glowing steadiness, maintaining a vibrant allure in the interplay of strings and piano, and into a heart-tugging finality. “Midnight” enthralls in its tonal development and melodic approachability, stirring in its initial build-up and later arrival into luminously impactful expanses. The track represents a thorough success from Richard Green, Irene Veneziano, and Archimia Strings Quartet.
