The HBO show, the second adaptation of the fantasy novels after the hit movies which ran from 2001 to 2011, is set to debut in 2027 and has already announced many principle castmembers including the three leads and Professor Dumbledore.

However, villain Lord Voldemort remains uncast, with Oscar winner Murphy being top of the list of rumoured contenders. In a new interview with The Times, however, he revealed he wasn’t aware he was connected to the part.

“Being a personality is not what I am good at” he said regarding keeping up with news about himself. “But then existing in this world? Talking about yourself, going on fucking red carpets? It’s not healthy if you start to believe this shit, and I’m really bad at it too. I’m an incredibly average person, really.”

However, any truth to those rumours was shot down quickly. When asked whether he is in the show, the Oppenheimer star stated: “I’m categorically not”.

One franchise he would like to return to, however, is 28 Years Later. The star recently reprised the role of Jim, his character in the original 28 Days Later, in the closing moments of sequel The Bone Temple, and said he would be interested in more appearances. “Hope so!” Murphy said when asked if a follow-up film actually happening. “I’m ready anyway.”

Murphy is currently promoting Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a film spin-off of the hit series Peaky Blinders where he returns to the iconic role of Thomas Shelby. The film is released in cinemas March 6, and the actor recently talked about why he believes movies shouldn’t be too “preachy”.
