London-based alternative band Tooth have released their second single, ‘Medicine’, marking another significant milestone in their rapid ascent through the UK’s independent circuit. Issued via Soil To The Sun Recordings, the track was produced by Kev Jones (Wunderhorse) at Crouch End’s Church Studios and mixed by Vince Ratti, whose credits include Scowl and Turnover. Formally structured yet prone to the erratic, feedback-laden “freakouts” reminiscent of Pavement, the single serves as a sonic bridge between the band’s melodic sensibilities and the high-intensity live performances that have earned them widespread critical backing.
Of the track, vocalist and guitarist Tom Pollock explains,
“We wanted to take the chaos of Sonic Youth but dilute it with a bit more structure and melody, and make it catchier. Lyrically, it revealed itself as a love song about an incessant lust for someone. This ‘someone’ was pretty vague in my mind, but it has a rawness of emotion I was fond of.
The release follows a period of sustained momentum for the group, following their inclusion in the NME 100 and significant airplay on BBC 6 Music and Radio X. Managed by Raw Power Management, the band has successfully transitioned from supporting acts like Dust to headlining major London venues, including a sold-out date at The Lexington. Currently, the quartet is embarking on a rigorous live schedule that includes a headline appearance at The Windmill Brixton tonight, followed by a UK tour supporting Keo. With confirmed slots at The Great Escape and Dot to Dot festivals this spring, Tooth continue to refine their reputation as a vital new force in the second-wave emo and garage rock landscape.
