Lip Critic Bet the House on High-Octane New Single ‘Jackpot’

NYC hardcore disruptors Lip Critic have detonated their latest single, ‘Jackpot’, a neon-soaked descent into the psychology of addiction. Arriving ahead of their new album Theft World, due May 1st via Partisan Records, the track captures a protagonist at war with his own hardwired cravings. Built on a foundation of “snapping” drums and predatory guitar samples, the song mirrors the frantic, short-circuiting energy of a casino floor.

Of the single, the band states,

“Jackpot is a song about risking it all, and winning it all, betting the house, and ending up with two houses, then waking up with nothing at all.”

The track is a visceral exploration of engineered craving, following a character groomed by gambling advertisements from childhood. The narrative takes a grotesque turn into body horror, with the protagonist sewing coins beneath his skin to stave off debt collectors, only to have them “unzipped”, under the harsh glare of casino lights. Directed by Colter Fellows, the accompanying video visualises this breathless paranoia and self-loathing. Vocally and sonically, ‘Jackpot’ swings between a “near-death haze” and a high-velocity pulse, serving as both a spectacle of modern entertainment and a grim warning about the emptiness that remains once the wheels stop spinning.
