The “musician’s musician” of the Scottish scene, Lizzie Reid, has returned with “Sentimental,” a smouldering indie-pop track that trades her signature quiet devastation for a confident, bass-driven groove. Following the grand rollout of her upcoming EP Undoing (due April 17th), the single captures a pivot toward hard-won self-awareness. While Reid has recently been seen sharing stages with Jacob Alon for his BRITs performance and supporting legends like Tori Amos and John Cale, “Sentimental” finds her turning the lens inward. The track explores the ugly habit of clinging to affection when the kinder move is to walk away, with Reid questioning the blurred lines between being caring and providing false hope.

Of the single, Reid shares,

“Sentimental is song about a habit of showing affection when maybe the best thing to do is to walk away from a situation. If I can’t give someone what they want or need, it’s best to walk away rather than feeding them crumbs. I’m a believer in showing you care for someone, but not if it gives false hope of them eventually getting more from you.”

Recorded during a period of creative unlearning, the Undoing EP represents Reid’s most unrestrained work to date. By moving away from defunct emotional patterns and leaning into a slinky melodic sensibility, Reid is finding new life in the ashes of her past experiences. The release comes just ahead of a highly anticipated UK headline tour, where the SAY Award-shortlisted artist will bring these vulnerable new arrangements to the stage.
