Hollow Shift – “Electric Gloom”

Athens, Greece-based duo Hollow Shift explores late-night isolation on their latest single “Electric Gloom.” Former Keep Shelly in Athens members Alex Zamparas and Jessica Bell merge shadowy darkwave tension with a propulsive, bass-driven pulse. This rhythmic fusion of retro-leaning electronica and moody, nocturnal atmosphere provides an immersive, emotionally charged gem of a production.

Shimmering guitars quickly collide with a thumping bass and percussive presence, embracing a post-punk vibrancy in its bouncy rhythm section. “Empty thoughts in the pouring rain,” the vocals move initially with moody allure, both lyrically and tonally, before accelerating into an enthused passion within the ensuing title-touting chorus. “Another night, nothing new,” the verses re-ignite with its nocturnal atmospheric pull, brightening with electricity as the “electric gloom… no escape, no way out / just a silent shout” hook hits hard.

An especially climactic moment shows around the two-minute turn, where the vocals exude a “city sleeps, but I’m awake” insomniac musing; the vocal delivery there reminds stirringly of Suede, in its tortured sense of emotion. A late-night, sleepless entrancement takes hold throughout alongside a fiercely memorable rock and post-punk synergy, resulting in another standout success from Hollow Shift, who caught our ears earlier this year with the excellent Reload EP. Their very strong 2026 continues with “Electric Gloom,” released as a double single along with the track “Fire and Smoke.”
