Sony Music Group brought its Beyond the Instrument program back to Canada with a special event in Hamilton, Ontario, held in partnership with MusiCounts for the second year in a row. Ahead of the 2026 JUNO Awards, Sony Music Canada artist and JUNO Award nominee, Sacha spent the afternoon with students at Westdale Secondary School, speaking to the group about her journey, her love of music, and sharing that the students will be receiving instruments as part of the Beyond the Instrument program to help strengthen the school’s growing music community.

This activation followed a series of events held around the world to celebrate Beyond the Instrument’s five‑year milestone. Earlier programs this year took place in the U.S., Panama, and the UK, where artists Victoria Monét, Boza, and Nectar Woode connected with students in their local communities. Together, these events underscored the initiative’s central mission: expanding access to music education and ensuring young people have the tools and technology they need to create, explore, and thrive.
Since 2021, the Beyond the Instrument program grant has worked to accelerate equity and expand access to cutting‑edge music technology education for students in high‑need schools within historically excluded communities—and it continues to build on that mission with an eye toward even greater impact. The program has been active in California, Tennessee, Florida, London, Toronto, and San Miguelito. Artists and songwriters who have served as mentors include Cat Burns, Noah Cyrus, Sigala, DIXSON, Theron Thomas, Schak, Aqyila, and Gloria Estefan, helping to inspire and guide the next generation of talent.
