New York, NY – April 1, 2026 – Sony Music Entertainment today announced the premiere of My Mother’s Lies, a new true crime podcast that reexamines a notorious murder case through the eyes of the woman who helped solve it—and the son who later discovered her story may not have been true. Hosted by legal analyst, Beth Karas, the series takes listeners deep into Kentucky and the want-to-be detective who was Susan Galbreath. Subscribers to The Binge can listen to all episodes today.
In the summer of 2000, Jessica Currin was found murdered in the small town of Mayfield, Kentucky. A local housewife, Susan Galbreath, was celebrated for helping law enforcement identify a suspect named Quincy Cross, who would later get sentenced to life in prison. Susan became a key figure in a case that many believed was solved.
Years later, after her death, her son Ray discovered a box of her case files filled with handwritten notes and records that raise disturbing questions about how his mother’s so-called “investigation” unfolded. Ray finds what he believes are inconsistencies, exaggerations, and deliberate fabrications that unravel the narrative she left behind. He’s left wondering one big question: was the man convicted of Jessica’s murder was wrongfully imprisoned?
Through exclusive access to Susan Galbreath’s personal emails, diaries, and investigative notes, along with previously unaired witness interviews and materials, My Mother’s Lies brings new information to light in Cross’ case. Ray is speaking publicly for the first time as he grapples with the impossible task of reconciling love for his mother with the truth he uncovers. Listeners are able to trace how the case against Quincy Cross was built, ultimately began to fall apart and the human cost of a story that overtook the facts and left lasting damage.
“I have been uncovering deceit, helping people fight for justice and giving them answers for years,” said host Beth Karas. “My Mother’s Lies tells a story that isn’t just about a murder or a conviction—it’s about what happens when a compelling story is allowed to replace the truth.”
My Mother’s Lies is hosted by Beth Karas. The original production is brought to you by Message Heard and Sony Music Entertainment. It is executive produced by Catherine Saint Louis and Jonathan Hirsch for Sony Music Entertainment. It is also executive produced by Justine Kershaw from Blink Films.
