Founded by Ed Silva in 2007, the project Cries of Redemption serves up two decades of unreleased material on the LP Patterns. This experimental rock collection features Italian vocalist Chiara A, whose conservatory training lends a hauntingly authentic contrast to the album’s gritty NuMetal and trance-inspired DNA. Addressing themes like the global loneliness crisis and paying tribute to figures like Syd Barrett (specifically on the track “(deSydTegration)”, Silva succeeds in delivering a raw document of survival within a dynamic stylistic range.
Spacey synth arps build with emotive momentum as “Sanctuary – Ibiza” gets the album underway. A warming, twangy guitar presence soars alongside, seamlessly showcasing an ability to blend rock and electronic realms with artful cohesion. The powerful guitar tones continue throughout, intertwined with a lush acoustic backing and sturdy rhythmic vigor. Sporadic doses of illuminated synths compel, climactic and melodically satiating.
Ensuing track “Impulse” fully unleashes Chiara A’s memorable vocal presence, here within a hard-rocking fervency with ample guitar distortion. Her vocals alternate seamlessly between dreamy and anthemic, fondly reminiscent of Amy Lee, as heavy guitars and theatrical strings maneuver into a guttural ardor. It’s one of many successes on the album, and especially resonant with its sweltering hard-rock direction. Chiara’s vocals also enamor on “Pump – Origins,” there within a lusher synth-forward trajectory with starry-eyed, nocturnal atmospherics.
“Let There Be Light – Part 1” is another success, straddling the line between spacey electro-pop and aggressive rock. The subsequent “Freudian Slip” compels as well, embracing a darkly industrial electronic edge as murky vocal elements infuse alongside both grimy darkness and brightened expanses. Patterns is a stellar album from Cries of Redemption, navigating across both fervent rock and interstellar electronics with impassioned melodic flair.
