The 75-minute large-format audiovisual experience has been assembled from artwork created by frontman Thom Yorke and designer Stanley Donwood during the making of the band’s celebrated albums ‘Kid A’ (2000) and ‘Amnesiac’ (2001).

Derived from sketches, paintings, collages, audio recordings and handwritten notes, the installation will debut underground at Coachella this weekend, in a 17,000 square foot bunker with 38-foot-high ceilings that has been specifically created beneath the Empire Polo Fields.

It will feature a custom-built 6-point surround system for which the music was specifically remixed, and according to Yorke, it will be based around a narrative in which “a monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost and forgotten”.

After that, ‘Motion Picture House: KID A MNESIA’ will appear in a number of other North American cities:

May 6 – 31: Brooklyn, Agger Fish Building
July 30 – August 23: Chicago, Cinespace Studio
October 27 – November 15: Mexico City, La Maravilla Studios
January 14 – February 7: San Francisco, Palace of Fine Arts

Tickets to those shows will be available for two-hour slots – 75 minutes for the show and extra time to explore the gallery – and the pre-registration window opens here at 11:59pm PT on Sunday (April 12). Pre-sale takes place on April 22, with any remaining tickets going on sale here at 10am on April 24.

Radiohead released ‘KID A MNESIA’, a reissue of ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesiac’ along with an album of unearthed material from the sessions, in 2021. The latter, dubbed ‘Kid Amnesiae’, received a four-star review from NME which noted: “Casual Radiohead fans of ‘No Surprises’ and the bangers will likely find little pleasure here. If you were someone who stood at the back at Glastonbury the other year waiting for ‘Creep’ then look elsewhere, but if you’re a hardcore completist then dive right right in. Ultimately, ‘Kid Amnesiae’ not only offers a mood piece, but also a companion and secret history behind the making of two essential, landmark records – and the rebirth of a great band.”

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien is releasing his second solo album ‘Blue Morpho’ on May 22 and will be touring around the UK and Europe in October.

He has also confirmed that Yorke will also be releasing a solo album this year, although that has not yet been announced.

O’Brien also recently revealed that Radiohead have plans to hit the road in 2027 and beyond, following on from their UK and European run late last year. “What we’re going to do is, every year we’re going to do a different continent, and we’re going to do 20 shows each year. No more, no less,” he said. “We won’t do anything this year, but we’ll do something next year.”

All five members of Radiohead formed a new private limited company in February, suggesting that the band were planning something in the near future. Their latest full-length record, ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’, was released in 2016.

As for Coachella, the first weekend kicks off on Friday (April 10), with Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G topping the bill. See all the stage times, surprise performances and how to watch here.
