A-Train, played by Jessie T. Usher, was a former member of superhero team The Seven. He is a speedster who played a crucial part in the first season of the show when he drunkenly ran through the girlfriend of Hughie (Jack Quaid), killing her instantly in front of him. The incident drove Hughie to join The Boys, but in the opening episode of season five, A-Train comes full circle.

Having defected from The Seven and helping The Boys liberate Hughie from Homelander’s (Antony Starr) “Freedom Camp”, A-Train is chased at high speed by Homelander, only for his momentum to be stopped when he swerves to avoid a pedestrian. Cornered by his former ally, A-Train mocks Homelander, who breaks his neck in a fit of rage.

The moment has prompted a raft of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with fans feeling it was a tragic but fitting end for the character. “A-train avoiding that girl to not kill her like he did Hughie’s girlfriend proving he changed, cared and was a hero…. AND IT WAS HIS UNDOING” one person wrote, with another adding: “A-Train’s last word being loser and laughing infront of Homelander to his face, couldn’t have been a more badass ending for him.”

Another viewer paid tribute, saying: “A-Train fought for what is right til the end THIS LEGEND WAS GONE TOO SOON”.
