007: First Light had originally been due to be released last month (March 27) but in January, developers IO Interactive announced they’d be pushing back the release date to May 27. The extra two months were to give the team time to “further polish and refine the experience” to ensure they delivered the “strongest possible version at launch”.

And while 007: First Light will still launch next month on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, Nintendo Switch 2 users will have to wait even longer to play the new Bond game. In a brief post on social media, IO Interactive said the Switch 2 version would come “later this summer” following rumours the game had been delayed indefinitely.

“We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms,” added IO Interactive.

Borderlands 4 was delayed on the Nintendo Switch 2 last year and Elden Ring fans are still waiting for the open-world game to launch on the handheld console even though it was meant to be released at some point in 2025.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that electronic music titan Dimitri Vegas had joined the cast of 007: First Light alongside Patrick Gibson (James Bond), Lenny Kravitz )Bawma, The Pirate King), Priyanga Burford (M), Alastair Mackenzie (Q), Kiera Lester (Miss Moneypenny), Noemie Nakia (Miss Roth) and Lennie James (John Greenway).

“I’ve been a fan of Bond for as long as I can remember, so stepping into the world of 007: First Light is a real honour,” the DJ said in a statement. “IO Interactive is creating something bold and cinematic, and I can’t wait for players to meet my character and experience the game for themselves.” To celebrate the news, Vegas shared a ravey remix of the iconic Bond theme during his set at Tomorrowland Winter. The track will also feature in the game.

In other news, PlayStation has announced a new contest called The Playerbase which could see you starring in a hit video game.
