Jason Segel plays a grieving therapist in Apple comedy drama Shrinking.
Created by Bill Lawrence, the show follows therapist Jimmy Laird who, while dealing with severe grief following the death of his wife, starts to breach ethical barriers by telling his patients what he truly thinks about them.
The show’s cast includes Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Harrison Ford and Ted McGinley.
Shrinking premiered in 2023 on Apple TV, with the third season arriving in January 2026. The show has been renewed for a fourth season.

At the end of the season three finale, Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) and Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford) have a fleeting encounter when the latter unexpectedly returns from Connecticut to visit him for a “bye-bye breakfast”.
In the prior episode, Paul moved to Connecticut to be closer with his daughter Meg (Lily Rabe) and her family. Jimmy however, instead of saying goodbye to him properly, took out of his frustrations on Paul following a dispiriting heart-to-heart with his father, further compounded by his decision to end his relationship with Sofi (Cobie Smulders).
In the finale, after his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) flies away to start college in Connecticut, and after Sean (Luke Tennie) moves into a new apartment, Jimmy finds himself feeling alone again. In Connecticut, Alice emphasises to Paul how lonely her father must be feeling with all of them gone, which sparks him to briefly fly back to help set things right.
When Jimmy and Paul meet in the final scene, Jimmy believes they’ll be having breakfast together. However, we discover Paul has actually set up him on a breakfast date with Sofi, who is waiting at a table in the restaurant. Paul tells him he needs to let go of the past if he wants to enjoy his life again. “Either stay stuck, or go make some new scars,” Paul says.
At the end of the episode, Jimmy sits down at the table opposite Sofi and they greet each other, as the song ‘You Without Me’ by Brandi Carlile plays over the credits.
