Almost 20 years after Malcolm In The Middle came to an end in May 2006, the majority of the cast have returned for a new revival series.

Created by original showrunner Linwood Boomer, Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair catches up with Malcolm, Francis, Reese, and Dewey, ahead of a 40th wedding anniversary party for their parents Hal and Lois.

Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado all reprise their roles. Newcomers include Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, Vaughan Murrae as Malcolm’s youngest sibling Kelly, and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, who takes over the role of Dewey from Erik Per Sullivan.

All four episodes of Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair are available on Disney+ in the UK.

At the time of writing, Hulu has not announced whether there’ll be any more episodes of Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.

However, the show was originally pitched as a two-hour movie before it was split into four 30-minute episodes, so it wasn’t initially planned as an ongoing series.

What have the creators said about a potential season 2?

Show creator Linwood Boomer has said the show’s future depends on whether it hits a “certain number” of viewers.

Asked by Collider about a second season, Boomer said: “Well, it depends on how it does. There’s a certain number, and I don’t even know what it is, and I don’t even know what it’s measuring, but some piece of data has to hit a certain number, and if it’s one shy, they won’t ask, and if it’s one over, they will ask, but not until then.

“We all had a great time. Everyone had a great time. It was a really good working experience, which I was nervous about after having been retired for so long and happily out of the business. Disney and 20th were terrific. They were great to work with.”

While it’s unclear if the core cast will be able to reunite once again in the future, executive producer Tracy Katsky Boomer believes the show could potentially continue with Keeley Karsten in the lead role, who plays Malcolm’s daughter Leah.

“She could absolutely hold a show,” Katsky Boomer told Entertainment Weekly.

Linwood Boomer added: “Keeley is an undiscovered star. As a performer, she has this crazy potential that would be silly for show business not to use.”
