Will there be a ‘Euphoria’ season four?

Euphoria season three is entering its final stages, but can fans expect it to return for a season four? Find out below.

Sam Levinson’s teen drama had been away for four years, but the opening episode of the new season landed on HBO Max on April 12.

The show follows the lives of a group of friends in the fictional town of East Highland, California, and the third season catches up with them after a five-year gap as adults, wrestling with faith, redemption and addiction.

Several of the show’s lead actors have gone on to be major stars, but they are all back for the new run – Zendaya as Rue Bennett, Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard, Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn and Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard.

Episodes in season three are now airing weekly on HBO Max on Sundays, with the season finale of episode eight set to premiere on May 31.

One actor who has not returned for season three is Barbie Ferreira, who recently said it “wasn’t worth” coming back to her role of Kat Hernandez, as the character was “kind of diminishing as time went on”.

Also not returning is Labrinth, having worked on the first two seasons. He explained the rift by saying, “when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me. But I don’t let people treat me like shit”.

The opening episode of season three also concluded with an In Memoriam screen honouring Angus Cloud, Eric Dane and executive producer Kevin Turen, who have all passed away since the show was on the air.

Will there be a Euphoria season four?

Given the A-list nature of the show’s cast now, the new episodes have proved to be highly successful for HBO Max, with Variety reporting that the premiere episode was watched by 8.5million people – a 44 per cent increase from the season two premiere in 2022.

The actors’ success outside of the franchise might also make it difficult for them all to return for a fourth season, however. In April, Zendaya appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show and was asked if she thought the third season would be the end of the show, she replied: “I think so, yeah.”

She did not elaborate beyond that statement, other than saying, “that closure is coming.”

There has been no official confirmation either way either from Levinson or HBO, but Levinson did tell Variety earlier this year that he treats “every season like it’s the last season”, and that there are “no plans” for it to return.
