Opus Kink Share Title Track ‘The Sweet Goodbye’ Ahead of Anticipated Debut LP

Brighton indie-punk collective Opus Kink have released “The Sweet Goodbye,” the title track from their highly anticipated debut studio album arriving July 31st via So Recordings. Blending western-style cowboy guitars with a distinct Soviet waltz, the single marks the fourth preview of the record, following the success of their BBC 6 Music B-listed track “Come Over, Do Me Wrong.” The release drops just ahead of a packed summer festival season and a massive autumn headline tour across the UK and Europe.

“The Sweet Goodbye” acts as a sweeping showcase of the six-piece’s ever-mutating blend of jazz, country, and experimental punk. By trading straight punk aggression for elusive, cinematic soundscapes, Opus Kink continue to expand their sonic universe, keeping audiences captivated by a sound that feels both jarringly new and deeply familiar.

Of the single, frontman Angus Rogers describes,

A man sings a lullaby to his love, his heart’s instrument, his medium of choice on the eve of their parting. Tomorrow they will bid one another goodbye but not before delivering a last message to the world that made them. The big man once said parting is such sweet sorrow… lift the pen, turn the peg, climb the clocktower, take aim, give everything.

With the album scheduled to drop via So Recordings at the end of July, Opus Kink are preparing for a major live onslaught. After hitting the festival circuit hard this summer, the band will embark on a comprehensive UK and European headline tour this autumn. The run will feature their biggest live milestone to date: a landmark performance at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town, cementing their transition from underground tastemakers to a major force in the contemporary alternative landscape.
