Interpol Announce New Album ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’ and Share Two Lead Singles

Post-punk titans Interpol have announced their highly anticipated new album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, arriving August 28th as their debut for Partisan Records. Marking their first release in four years, the band returned to their original home base of Manhattan’s Lower East Side to record with producer Andrew Wyatt (Charli xcx) and mixer David Fridmann. The album expands Interpol’s signature brooding palette with strings, woodwinds, and experimental sound design, and the band has shared the record’s opening two tracks, the title track and “See Out Loud,” as an immediate double-single preview.

The two lead tracks offer a striking study in duality. While the title track unfolds like a slow-burning revelation of warped bass and ghostly vocal textures, “See Out Loud” strikes with the classic nocturnal charge of serrated guitars and taut rhythms. Notably, “See Out Loud” features a rare vocal turn from guitarist Daniel Kessler, marking his first time on the microphone since “PDA” from their 2002 landmark debut Turn On The Bright Lights. The album’s themes of reflection and emotional tension are mirrored in its artwork, which features a piece by Addie Wagenknecht from the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The announcement comes during a period of massive global momentum for the trio, who recently performed to over 200,000 people in Mexico City and teased the new material at Coachella. Next month, Interpol will launch a 23-date North American headline tour before heading to the UK and Europe. Their overseas run includes a slot at London’s Outbreak Festival on August 23rd and a massive 18-date co-headline arena tour alongside Bloc Party throughout November and December.
