George Bone Channels Tom Odell’s Emotional Songcraft on Powerful New Single ‘Floating Away’

Rising Essex and London-based singer-songwriter George Bone has unveiled his latest single, ‘Floating Away’, while simultaneously announcing details of his debut EP, The Yes Man. Following his inclusion in BBC Introducing Essex & Cambridgeshire’s Ones To Watch for 2025, the release marks another significant step for an artist rapidly establishing himself as one of the region’s most exciting emerging talents.

Blending the emotional weight of singer-songwriters such as Tom Odell with influences spanning folk, neo-jazz and contemporary pop, Bone has developed a sound that feels deeply personal yet instantly accessible. His songwriting balances introspection with memorable melodies, drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as Chris Stapleton, Dan + Shay, Bruno Major, Eloise and Conor Albert.

‘Floating Away’ arrives as one of Bone’s most ambitious recordings to date. Built around a delicate acoustic guitar foundation, the track gradually unfolds into a sweeping and cinematic production. What begins as an intimate reflection soon expands into something far grander, with lush strings, atmospheric synths and soaring instrumentation elevating the song’s emotional impact.

The arrangement is particularly effective in the way it mirrors the themes of the song itself. Subtle moments of restraint give way to bursts of intensity, while layered brass and orchestral textures help carry the track towards an exhilarating finale. Throughout, Bone’s expressive vocal performance remains the focal point, delivering a sense of vulnerability that feels genuine rather than manufactured.

Discussing the creative process behind the single, Bone says:

“In bringing to life the ebb and flow – the push and the pull – of a relationship, myself and my producer Fionn Connolly implemented very clear Rubato phases at the end of phrases, especially towards the beginning of the song. It sounds great overall, and made us both feel high and mighty for doing classical music degrees, but was a PAIN to programme in!

The climax of the song is one of my favourite bits of the entire record. We asked ourselves ‘Which instruments should play the solo’ and we both answered back with, ‘Yes’.

This track is the Ying to The Wrong Person’s Yang. This is the rupturing of what is known to be true, and the impossible forceful grief becomes material, even in the most gentle of actions”.

The single serves as a key introduction to The Yes Man, a six-track collection that Bone describes as his most authentic body of work so far. While previous releases hinted at his potential, the forthcoming EP appears set to present the clearest picture yet of an artist willing to challenge himself creatively while embracing greater honesty in his songwriting.

Reflecting on the project as a whole, he explains:

“I recognise that I’ve diverged quite dramatically from my discography to date. But in making this record, I have been able to connect with my music and myself more than I ever had before. What started as cheap post-breakup therapy turned into a break-up collection with myself. And I have never been prouder for making it analogously and while paying musicians a fair wage in doing so”.

Bone’s growing reputation has been built not only on his recordings but also on a busy live schedule. Whether performing with a full band or alone behind a keyboard, he has become known for creating engaging and emotionally charged performances. His résumé already includes support appearances for The Voice UK winner Molly Hocking at sold-out London shows, as well as a slot with Andrew Cushin following the latter’s tour alongside Louis Tomlinson.

Festival appearances at events including Taste of London Festival, Wokingham Festival and Sounds Good Festival have further expanded his audience, while his relationship with BBC Introducing has provided an important platform for his development. As a Featured Artist for BBC Introducing Essex & Cambridgeshire, Bone has performed at London’s prestigious Maida Vale Studios and made multiple appearances on Jodie Bryant’s New Music Monday stage at The Ned.

Industry recognition has followed. Alongside surpassing 200,000 Spotify streams, Bone has received regular support from BBC radio and international stations across Europe and the United States. His accolades include Radio Wigwam’s Best Male Artist of the Year award and recognition as a QH Sounds Rising Star. Away from his own music, he also works within the industry as a social media presenter for Yamaha Music London and un.

With headline performances planned and The Yes Man scheduled for release in late 2026, George Bone enters his next chapter with considerable momentum. If the expansive, emotionally resonant ‘Floating Away’ is a sign of what is to come, the EP could prove to be the breakthrough moment his growing fanbase has been waiting for.
