Manchester indie trio Bank Holiday arrive with confidence and charisma on their debut single ‘Out Of The Blue’, marking the first chapter of a project that already feels remarkably assured. Fresh from a run of dates supporting Jamie Webster on tour, the band have wasted little time making an impression, with the track also earning its first play on BBC Radio 1.
Driven by bright, high-energy guitars, punchy drums and a grounding bassline, ‘Out Of The Blue’ channels the band’s affection for ’90s alternative rock while showcasing a sharp contemporary edge. Infectious melodies sit alongside tongue-in-cheek lyricism built around familiar sayings and idioms, creating a playful yet purposeful debut that captures the immediacy and chemistry of the three-piece.
Speaking about the track, frontman Mac McCartney explains: “‘Out Of The Blue’ came from an idea me and Luke had about trying to fit as many well-known sayings and idioms into one song as we could. It started off as a bit of a challenge, but it ended up shaping the whole track. Luke Owens, our guitarist, records all of our stuff in his studio himself, which gave us the freedom to experiment with the track over the course of a few months and also to keep it feeling natural. It’s a song about unpredictability really, how things can change when you least expect it, but also very open-ended at the same time.”
The origins of Bank Holiday are rooted in long-standing friendships and perfect timing. With each member stepping away from previous projects at the same moment, the trio found themselves embarking on a fresh creative journey together. That experience shows in the band’s polished debut. Despite being a new name, the musicians behind it are no strangers to success. Across previous ventures, they have secured airplay on Radio X and SiriusXM, featured on BT Sport’s Champions League coverage, appeared on British Airways flights, and landed sync placements on the BBC drama Waterloo Road.
Their recent acoustic tour alongside Jamie Webster offered an early opportunity to introduce the project to audiences across the North West, helping build momentum ahead of the single’s release. The response has been immediate, culminating in the song’s first BBC Radio 1 play and further underlining the growing buzz surrounding the band.
With ‘Out Of The Blue’, Bank Holiday have delivered the kind of debut that many bands spend years chasing: energetic, memorable and brimming with personality. If this first release is anything to go by, Manchester’s newest indie outfit are already well on their way to making a lasting mark.
