The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be adapted and shown at the Las Vegas Sphere in 2027.
The 1976 cult classic will be the latest movie to get regular screenings at the 20,000 capacity venue, following on from The Wizard Of Oz becoming the first to be adapted to fit the 160,000-square-foot screen, and already bringing in around $400million (£298million) in ticket sales (via Consequence).
Set to start showing from next year, Sphere Entertainment will use “advanced technologies” to increase the quality and size of the original film, so it looks right on the Sphere’s curved interior display.
“Through Sphere Studios, we are building a slate of original experiences that push the boundaries of technology and storytelling for this new medium, while always keeping the audience at the centre of the experience,” said Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan.
“Since The Rocky Horror Picture Show premiered in 1975, it redefined audience participation and became a cultural phenomenon. With Sphere, we have the opportunity to take that spirit of immersion to an entirely new level.”
