TWICE Return to London | [THIS IS FOR World Tour] Concert Review

Superstar girl group TWICE returned to London once more after almost 3 years for their THIS IS FOR world tour. It's safe to say that the city dearly missed them as the entirety of the O2 arena and surrounding area swarmed with lace and frill-clad fans in a uniform of red crochet sets or hyper-femme ensembles.

You'd think a couple of weeks would work well enough to cure the cruel hand of post-concert depression, but leaving the TWICE show was a pang that lingered long past it's due date. The night was a testament as to the raw star power of TWICE, though not just in reference to how they literally sparkled and glittered on stage. 'The Nations Girl Group', as fairy-like and delicate as they seem, were nothing but explosive on stage, exuding pure energy surpassing the classic K-Pop girl group fashion that we all know and love.

They played a mix of title tracks and b-sides, ranging from bright summery songs like 'Dance the Night Away' and energetic fan-favourites like 'Can't Stop Me', all the way to their edgier tracks like 'Cry for Me' (a personal favourite). The encore, in fact, got a rare performance of their dreamy Japanese single 'Donut' - though we're also extremely jealous of those that got to see 'TT' live then next day!

Vocally, they were stellar. Angelic. We in the audience were nothing short of mesmerised that evening. Serenaded, even. From a pseudo-technical standpoint, harmonising nine different vocal tones into a smooth listening experience doesn't seem easy but there was nothing jarring or no one seemed vocally out of place. Each member seamlessly melded into their vocal functions of each performance, so every harmony, powerful belt and breathy ad-lib felt purposeful. Performance-wise, it's apparent that TWICE have been in the spotlight for over a decade now. Be it the old school days of JYP's vocal training or just years of experience, their voices are nothing short of beautiful.

The visual aspect of the show - the choreography across different stages and set designs were nothing short of razor sharp, and clear evidence of hours upon hours of rehearsals. Every detail was so crisp and clean, yet they still retained a very human flair and swerved from looking overly mechanic. The art direction also deserves all the flowers as the usage of the space was utilised in a way that fully transported the audience into the world the group was pulling us into with each performance with various platforms and lightwork. Personally, the aesthetics during Chaeyoung's solo performance was one of my favourites for bringing the dreamy, Lewis Carroll-esque ambience to life.

The stylists outfit designers deserve their own applause for taking advantage and highlighting the full range the girls exhibit, leaving them glittering in sparkly white numbers and airy summery beach-inspired co-ords or sexier, more edgy crop tops and boots. That being said, seeing Jihyo's abs and back muscles from over 50 yards away definitely had some of us slotting in more gym sessions in our calendars.

The end of the show saw both joy and tears. Happiness at the overall quality of the performance, and sadness that it was now over. Favourites of the night were 'Cry for Me' and 'One Spark' - the overarching fan-favourite it seems. Maybe its their experience talking, or just their overall concept, but it's important to note that while the performance was obviously amazing, the concert actually brought a sense of fun back to the audience. On that note, well done to everybody on the tour. The girls, obviously, but also the backup dancers, the live band, sound managers, art directors and everybody involved, and can only hope they come back soon.
