The Chicago punk rock trio were set to hit venues in Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, London and Manchester this month, as well as topping the bill at this year’s 2000Trees in Gloucestershire next week (July 9).

The tour was meant to kick off last night (July 3) in Birmingham, but all of the dates have now been pulled. In a statement shared on social media, the band explained that the cause of the cancellation is due to “medical issues” with frontman Matt Skiba.

“We are immensely sorry, but we must cancel our dates in England,” the band’s message explained, “including tonight’s show in Birmingham, due to medical issues Matt has been suffering from that have worsened.”

The band went on to share, “He’s gonna be okay but needs to be treated stateside as soon as possible. We will be back healthier and stronger.” They advised that refunds would be made available at the point of purchase.

Their 10th and latest studio album, ‘Blood, Hair And Eyeballs’, arrived in 2024, and we spoke to the band about the “apocalyptic” record at the time. “It’s been the longest break Alkaline Trio has taken from putting out a new album, so I felt like we owed our fans the best record we could make,” explained Skiba.

Dan Andriano added: “If we’re going to album 10, let’s make it fucking awesome. We wanted it to be different. We wanted it to be special. We didn’t see any point in making an Alkaline Trio record that we’ve already made. We want to move forward.

“No matter what we do, though, Alkaline Trio is going to seep in there. As hard as we try sometimes, we can’t escape ourselves.”

Alkaline Trio are scheduled to embark on a US tour with Rise Against in September, and there’s currently no word on whether that trek will be affected by Skiba’s health issues.
