East London Quintet Humane Share Propulsive New Single ‘Kill Time’

East London five-piece Humane have released their sharp new single, “Kill Time,” out now via Unpopular Recordings. Driven by a relentless, danceable staccato bassline and a sense of propulsive urgency, “Kill Time” was born from a moment of mundane inspiration when frontman Max Hanley drove past a temporary road sign reading “Gallows Corner closed” near his home in Romford.

Hanley explains,

“I liked taking the words surrounding death and spinning them into something else. The track’s about an illusory place to kill time – somewhere you can disappear entirely and let go of yourself, a clean slate. It’s a hopeful song. I imagine people having their first dance to it.”

The release marks a significant turning point for the band. Alongside the single, the group has officially shortened their name from “Humane The Moon” to the more clinical moniker of “Humane.” The name change ushers in a darker, more expansive sonic chapter for the outfit, serving as a clean slate of their own as they prepare to roll out major plans for the year ahead.

What started as a solo project for Hanley has quickly matured into a formidable five-piece live force, refined over the course of two EPs and a relentless touring schedule. Over their short tenure, Humane have already built an impressive live resume, including a massive joint tour with Radio Free Alice, standout sets at Green Man Festival and SXSW Sydney, and a wave of early airplay support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music. Humane are set to support rising Australian band Sex Mask on their upcoming UK tour, before heading out across Europe for a run of dates with Radio Free Alice.
