A biopic based on Snoop Dogg‘s life and career has set a release date for summer 2027.

A film about the legendary rapper was confirmed as going ahead last year by Universal Pictures with Coming 2 AmericaHustle & FlowFootloose and Dolemite Is My Name director Craig Brewer at the helm.

Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss was also cast in the lead role.

Following the casting being made public, Snoop took to social media at the time to post pictures of himself with the young actor: “Let’s go nefew [nephew]! It’s time!”. Daviss wrote in his own post: “Bow wow wow”.

Now, a release date has been confirmed with the biopic set to land in cinemas on August 6 2027.

Entitled Snoop, the biopic is the first under the studio’s overall deal with Death Row Pictures, the rapper’s content label. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, who worked on 8 Mile, will produce the movie along with Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker.

According to Variety, plot details are yet to be confirmed, so it’s unclear if the movie will take a wide-ranging look at Snoop’s career or focus on one chapter in his life.

A Snoop-focused biopic was first announced in 2022, with Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole penning the script. At the time, Allen Hughes (Menace II Society, The Defiant Ones) was attached to direct.

Elsewhere, earlier this year it was confirmed the rapper is set to star in a new film from horror director Eli Roth.

It was initially announced that Snoop would be a producer on the project and would also be contributing to its soundtrack. But Roth (HostelCabin Fever) also revealed that the rapper would also appear onscreen.

“He’s been wanting to do Death Row Films for a long time,” Roth said at the time. “I said we need to make the ultimate haunted house movie, like the craziest one, something that mixes House, House by the Cemetery, Hausu and Friday The 13th, like something so insane people can’t believe it exists.”

“And we’d have to call it, Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” Roth continued. “And he’s going to star in it.” Roth went on to unveil a few details about the film, which is expected to start filming over the summer. Summing it up, he added: “People keep going in the house. People don’t listen. What are you doing, bitch? Don’t go in that house.”
