Tiny Habits have shared the sensitive new single ‘Belt Loop’, which explores “the emotional aftermath of an intense breakup” – check it out below.
The track is the third preview of the Boston trio’s forthcoming second album ‘Keepers’, which is set for release on August 28 via Mom+Pop Music (pre-order here).
Following previous singles ‘Right In Front Of Me’ and ‘Anything He Was’, their collaboration with The 1975’s Matty Healy, ‘Belt Loop’ sees the group move towards a soulful, R&B-influenced sound.
The song explores the vulnerable experience of being intimate with someone new for the first time after the end of a relationship. Check it out here:
The band have said: “‘Belt Loop’ allowed us to delve into a new side of our writing and tackle some topics we haven’t previously discussed in our repertoire.”
“The song grew out of the emotional aftermath of an intense breakup, revealing the strange, vulnerable experience of being with someone new for the first time after a relationship ends.
“There’s a tension in that moment: trying to be present, feeling your way through something unfamiliar, and discovering parts of yourself that maybe haven’t had space to come forward before.”
They continued: “Over the past few years, we’ve often been described as ‘cute’ or ‘pretty’ as a band, but with this album, we wanted to embrace a wider emotional and physical range.
“This song gave us permission to lean into something more playful, sensual and grown-up, while still keeping honesty at the centre of it.”
Tiny Habits – comprising Cinya Khan, Judah Mayowa and Maya Rae – wrote ‘Keepers’ during sessions in Los Angeles and New York, with production by Benjamin Millman, and additional production from Philip Weinrobe, Ryan Linvill and Jeremy Schmetterer.
It follows their 2024 debut album ‘All For Something’, which itself arrived after the trio built an online following with their harmony-led cover performances while studying at Boston’s Berklee College of Music.
Speaking to NME as part of The Cover around the release of ‘All For Something’, Khan reflected on the friendship at the heart of the group.
“It’s just such a blessing to be able to sing with each other,” she said. “It feels like we’re just chatting with each other, and to sing a harmony on somebody’s story – with your best friends – is just the sweetest thing ever.”
Tiny Habits performed at Newport Folk Festival on Friday (July 24) and will next play an intimate, sold-out show at London’s St Pancras Old Church on August 7.
They are also set to appear at All Things Go Festival in September, before beginning their biggest North American headline tour to date in Dallas on November 11. Find any remaining tickets here.
