“Desire For Two” is the first single from Liverpool-based alternative/noise rock band Grool. Composed of vocalist Beesley and drummer Carrick, this experimental artist delivers haunting lyrics that hark back to the queer experience through a raucously beautiful wall of sound. The trip-hoppy drums nestled between the washes and bones of familiar and intricate rock staple sounds are one of the most pronounced elements of the single and the band thus far. They’re like the high from a drug-induced arrhythmia, the heartbeat pumping the blood of mind-gripping warble of industrial rock elements.
“Desire For Two” builds like a tsunami that crashes slowly and powerfully in the end; vocalist Beesley reaches you like an incoming distorted transmission from an angel through the band’s gorgeously crushing static. A beautiful unraveling of a sonic story, this is the kind of song that would make your knees weak to hear live. Be it from Beesley’s lament and piercing commentary on the violence of marginalized communities (especially women and transgender people), it sounds as though her inspiration is pulled from a compelling lived experience as a trans woman. This is the art that alchemizes pain into beauty, into a ripping hope and cathartic release.
Equal parts righteous anger released and aggressively beautiful instrumentals, it’s no wonder Grool released this song on the day of they supported Deb Googe (of My Bloody Valentine) live in Liverpool with pianist Cara Tivey back on Friday, July 10, 2026. The band has also previously supported the Orchestra (For Now), Meryl Streek, and Bruise Control.
There is intense anger in the aggressive vocals, distorted drum breaks, and bewitching structure throughout the song we will hopefully see upon more musical releases.
