Emerging Brighton four-piece M. Woodroe have unveiled their incendiary new single, “Carte Blanche,” released today alongside an accompanying music video. The track serves as the second teaser from their debut EP, The Treatment of Fractures, arriving September 18th via independent label Venn Records (home to High Vis, thistle., Opal Mag, and Night Swimming).

Following earlier summer release “Sweetness, Sweetness,” “Carte Blanche” pivots into sharp political commentary. Blending raw guitar noise with biting lyricism, the track confronts themes of fascism and resistance directly, featuring razor-sharp lines like “you sip champagne through stolen teeth.”

Frontwoman Marcie Garwell detailed the song’s origins and influences:

“‘Carte Blanche’ is about fascism, violence and fighting back. It started with just myself and my acoustic guitar and then morphed into the grungy crowd favourite that it is now. I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the tongue-in-cheek and playful ways folk singers incorporated historical context into their songs – notably Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly and Pete Seeger.”

Rising from Brighton’s underground DIY scene, M. Woodroe have earned early praise across BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, The Line Of Best Fit, and Rough Trade, while building a formidable live reputation through supporting acts like Mclusky and Prostitute.
