Queens Of The Stone Age have revealed the title and possible release date of their upcoming album in a bloody teaser video – check it out below.
Starring frontman Josh Homme and guitarist-keyboardist Dean Fertita, the newly shared 90-second clip features the two QOTSA members playing a game of five-finger fillet. While Fertita was pretty handy at the game, it all goes horribly wrong for Homme, who plunges the knife right into his own hand.
Before things got too gory, Fertita had asked Homme when the record was coming out, to which he replied, “September 30th, I think.” After that, it all turns into a bloody mess, with a voice-over rounding off the clip by saying: “Queens of the Stone Age, the new album, ‘Perfecth’, coming September 30th.”
However, at the end of the clip, the date is crossed out. Given new albums are typically released on Fridays, and September 30 is a Wednesday, there is a chance it could arrive on another date – which could be backed up by the new video’s non-committal title, ‘Coming…soon?’.
The announcement of the album title and potential release date follow the unveiling of the first single, ‘Easy Street’ which was accompanied by a similarly bloody music video.
The arrival of the psychedelic, jaunty track marked Homme and co’s first material since 2023, following on from their eighth studio album, ‘In Times New Roman…’. The band first debuted the song live last autumn as part of their ‘Catacombs’ tour, and it later became a regular fixture on their setlist, securing itself as a fan favourite.
The band are currently opening for the Foo Fighters on their North American stadium tour, which led to headlines earlier this month after Homme complained about the venue’s no-smoking policy during their set.
“Don’t let these fuckin’ corporate assholes tell you what to do, do whatever the fuck you want,” Homme – who was frustrated by the potential $10,000 (£7,410) fine for smoking backstage – told the crowd. “Fuck that shit. You paid for parking, and you’re paying for overpriced drinks, these fucking scalpers. Fuck having some corporation tell you what the fuck to do, you guys do what you want!”
Foo Fighters had just kicked off their ‘Take Cover’ tour with QOTSA in Toronto on the August 4, which the latter’s first outing in North America since their orchestral ‘Catacombs’ tour in April and May.
Prior to the tour, Foos frontman Dave Grohl explained why he was taking QOTSA out on the road with them, explaining that it was to honour their “lifelong bond”.
“What better way to share the view than with close friends. In 1992 I first saw the legendary Kyuss perform at the Off Ramp in Seattle and met Mr. Josh Homme. The band were friends of a friend, and before long their album ‘Blues for the Red Sun’ became the soundtrack to that summer. 33 years later and with many miles behind us, I have shared some of my life’s most rewarding musical moments with my dear friend, Josh,” he said.
“A lifelong bond that goes far beyond the sound we’ve made together. So it is with great happiness that we can share this next chapter together with his almighty Queens of the Stone Age. Take cover.”
