A dreamy electronic voyage through immersive soundscapes, Do U Wish 2 Continue? marks Jupiter’s Kiss‘s return three years after the project’s debut album, Maiden Voyage. The follow-up expands upon its predecessor’s exploratory spirit, venturing into increasingly dynamic and emotionally resonant terrain, often bolstered by serenely emotive singing and gradually unfolding song structures.
“Celestial” opens the album with a beautiful melodic emphasis. “Thinking about you makes me want to cry,” harmonious harmonic layers intone with spacious allure, moving from solo lead appeal to vintage-sounding synth adornments. A beckoning to “hop on a flight” furthers that spacey, adventurous vibe, leading aptly into “Warp.” Rather than repeating the minimalist opening track, this electro-pop journey delights in its expansive vigor. Effervescent synth work and accelerating effects pair with a sturdy percussive pitter-patter, crafting a soundscape fit for a sci-fi film as a ship throttles through space. The album’s opening one-two punch stirs in its eclectic tonal differentiation yet shared space-minded vibes; “Celestial” dazzles in its melody-fronted harmoniousness, while “Warp” is an instrumental tour-de-force of a soundscape.
“Novelty” continues the captivating start, strutting a balmy electro-pop intrigue that moves into soulful choral entrancement. “I’m not like other guys in this party looking for a sweet escape,” the lead compels, offering to be “something like a novelty.” The portrayal of a late-night, crossing-paths narration pairs with a confident disposition, seeking love rather than an antidote to lust. Caressing synth pads propel throughout an especially absorbing final minute. “Echo” then struts a twinkling lushness in its glistening keys and haunting melodic murmurs, venturing into an emotive delivery that asks, “how do you wish to proceed, in a perfect timeline?”; much like the opening track, it is a lovely display of melodic phrasing and minimalist yet impactful instrumentation.
Elsewhere, “On Your Mind” envelops in its jazzy, lounge-friendly assortment of chilled-out piano and percussion. “I know in life there is more that the eyes can do, but you ain’t fooling me,” the delivery progresses in capturing a relationship stymied by poor communication, beckoning “don’t leave me here in the dark, ’cause I still care for you.” The heart-on-sleeve crooning pleads to know “what’s on your mind,” relatable in depicting a relationship at a crossroads, further enhanced by hazy synth pads. “Right Now” also achieves a sincerely heartfelt quality, melding sung reassurances with likenesses of twangy guitars and orchestral layers; the result is an elegantly impactful production.
Album finale “Unbound” is a particularly stunning effort, continuing the album’s knack for otherworldly yet serene synth-fronted arrangements alongside emotively resonant singing mellowness. “Although my world is crashing down,” the lyrics begin, shifting from moroseness to an acknowledgment of having “gave love.” Reverbed, sporadic percussive elements ease in seamlessly before featuring a title-touting melodic enthrallment. Thematic depictions of personal stagnation meet an evident appreciation for life and the ability to love, chronicling personal tumult as a feature of life rather than something to prevent one from moving forward. Enveloping in both its introspective themes and gorgeous synth-laden productions, Do U Wish 2 Continue? is an excellent album from Jupiter’s Kiss.
